The out-of-plane direct component for stress ( S33) is reported as zero to the output database as expected, and the out-of-plane component of strain ( E33) is reported as zero even though it is not. For plane stress, membrane, and shell elements, only the in-plane tensor components (11, 22, and 12 components) are stored by Abaqus/Standard.For Abaqus/Explicit user subroutines that store stress and strain components according to the convention presented in “ Conventions, ” Section 1.2.2 of the Abaqus Analysis User's Manual, a number of utility routines are available for calculating principal stress/strain values and principal stress/strain directions from the relevant tensors. In all cases, the preferential plane is chosen of all planes of the same family. The results show the evolution of the maximum principal stress, σ 1, resolved to 3 crystallographic planes: 100, 110, 111.
